Horne, W.A. - Root Cellar

Jackson Township

Geary County

This arched cave is located about 10 yards to the northwest of a two story wood frame house and across the road from an impressive stone barn. It is laid up with very large cut and quarried stone with in impressive entry way built into a kind of retaining wall. It has a walk out entrance to the east via a single metal door. This would not have been a great root cellar but an excellent room for general storage (as is suggested by the objects left behind) and as a storm shelter. It measures 15’(L)x7.5’(W)x 7.5’(H).
