Stocks, Sarah - Sistern
Blue Rapids Township
Arched structure built into hillside high above homestead and immense (collapsed) barn below. It is pretty clear that this was intended to be a sistern, but there is also the chance that it was simply a root cellar that had its entrance covered over. However, there is no sign of a foundation anywhere near it and its location near the hilltop makes its use as a cistern make sense. Entrance could be made through two pretty large openings in the roof. It's the only time I found a structure of this sort. It's located a little ways southwest of Blue Rapids. The cave walks aligns north south and is approximately 18'(L)x10'(W)x?'(H).
