Nelson, N.W. - Root Cellar
This arched cellar is located just to the south of an abandoned wood frame house about a mile and a half to the northwest of Dwight, KS. The cellar is built almost entirely underground with a raised mound over the top of it. It is accessed with a stair case and would have been accessed through two doors. The cellar is made of very large cut stones that show the definite handy work of a professional mason. It has several built in cubbies along both sides of the cave. The cellar opens to the north toward the back of the house and measures 16’(L)x8’(W)x 8’(H).
