Vieux, Louis - Root Cellar
This native stone arched cave is built into hillside to the south of the Louisville cemetery. Louis Vieux operated the ferry over Vermillion creek located a short distance to the west of property. He would charge a toll to cross. During the peak of the Oregon Trail he would make hundreds of dollars a day. He built a log cabin above the cave that he lived in. A number of locals tell of him also living in the cave itself. Nothing remains of any of the other structures on the property. The cave opens to the south and measures 16'(L)11'(W)x7'(H).
