Johnson, John - Root Cellar

Mill Creek Township

Wabaunsee County

This fairly unique root cellar is built about 20 yards to the southwest of the remnants of a one story stone house. The cave built into an embankment that is located on a piece of property to the north of a Swedish cemetery. The structure opens to the south via a few steps through a side entrance that is also covered with a formed arch. It’s not clear how effective this cellar would have been without a much more protected entrance. This site is set between the Siegrist family homestead and the Redman families homestead. It measures 12’(L)x9’(W)x 6’(H)
