Parker, George - Dugout

Zeandale Township

Riley County

This arched cave is located off of Deep Creek Rd. in a part of Riley County that would have been part of Wabaunsee county originally. The cave is built into a slope of a hillside to the north of a two story stone house. According to the book ”Pioneers of the Blue Stem Prairie”, George Parker bought the property in the early 1870's and it already had the finished cave and an unfinished house next. Looking at the cave in comparison to the home it's clear the cave is much older and constructed more primitively. George parkers story supports this and makes it clear that these structures would often be built first and likely lived in. The cave also has a built in fire place which makes living in it even more likely. The cave walks out to the east and measures 14'(L)x10'(W)6.5'(H).
