Carlson, A.A. (Days Ride Hotel) - Twin Cellars
Blue Valley Township
These arched caves are built into a hillside along a large retaining wall. Although the property appears as A.A. Carlson on early plat maps, these structures are supposed to be the remnants of the Days Ride Hotel. This hotel was supposed to have stood a day's ride from Manhattan on the way to Frankfurt (and vice versa). Each cave seems to have a different purpose. One was likely the cold storage and the other might have served as more a pantry/root cellar or general storage. At some point they both were covered with a coating of lime plaster which is now flaking off. Both also open to the southwest and are approximately 18'(L)7.5'(W)x7'(H).
