Troemper, C. - Root Cellar/Dugout
This structure is built into an slight embankment without any mound raised above it. It seems to have been restored recently including having the door replaced. It isn’t clear where is is positioned relative to a home on the property. If there was one it has since collapsed and been cleared away. There are a couple other stone structures remaining on the property including a striking stacked stone silo that is a hundred yards to the west. The cave itself opens to the south from behind a long retaining wall and is only closed off by a single door. This would make it a pretty poor root cellar. It might more likely have been a storm shelter or even an original dugout home. The cave measures approximately 16’(L)x8’ (W)x 6’(H).
